Terms of Service

Welcome to TURF — the running game where your real runs claim real streets. These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and TURF ("we", "us") covering the TURF app, website, and related services (together, the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy.

1. Who can use TURF

• You must be at least 13 years old to create an account.
• You must provide accurate registration details (name, date of birth, gender, email) and keep them up to date.
• One account per person. You are responsible for everything that happens under your account and for keeping your password secure.

2. Your account & the waitlist

New accounts may be placed on a waitlist. While waitlisted you can explore the app and take part in the Race experience; full gameplay (including connecting Strava and claiming turf) unlocks when your account is approved. We may approve, decline, suspend, or remove accounts at our discretion to keep the game fair and safe.

3. The game

• TURF turns GPS-recorded runs into territory claims, street captures, races, and rankings. GPS data is imperfect; claims, distances, and results are determined by our processing rules, and our decisions on scoring are final.
• Fair play is mandatory: no GPS spoofing, vehicle-assisted "runs", automation, exploiting bugs, or interfering with other players. Violations can lead to removed turf, disqualification, suspension, or a ban.
• Features may change, be added, or be retired as the game evolves.

4. Safety first

Running is a physical activity in the real world. You participate at your own risk: obey traffic laws, respect private property, stay aware of your surroundings, and never let the game push you into unsafe places or behavior. TURF does not provide medical advice — consult a professional before starting intense training. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for injuries or losses arising from your running activity.

5. Strava and other third-party services

Connecting Strava is optional and governed by Strava's own terms. When you link an account, you authorize us to import activity data needed to run the game. We are not responsible for third-party services, their availability, or their data accuracy.

6. Your content

You keep ownership of content you add (like profile photos and crew images). You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host and display that content inside the Service so the game can work (for example, showing your name, photo, turf, and results to other players). Don't upload content that is unlawful, infringing, hateful, or explicit — we may remove it and act on the account.

7. Turf Pro & purchases

Optional paid features (such as Turf Pro) may be offered via app-store purchases or our payment providers. Prices are shown before you buy; subscriptions renew until cancelled through the store or provider you purchased from. Except where required by law, payments are non-refundable.

8. Community conduct

Respect other runners. Harassment, hate speech, impersonation, cheating, or abuse of crews, races, or chat-like features isn't tolerated and can end your access.

9. Intellectual property

The Service — including the TURF name, logo, design, code, and game mechanics — belongs to us or our licensors. These Terms don't grant you any rights to use our branding.

10. Termination

You can stop using TURF and request account deletion at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, harm the Service, or create legal risk. Sections that by their nature should survive (like 6, 9, 11, and 12) survive termination.

11. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied — including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy of GPS or scoring, or uninterrupted availability.

12. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost data, lost profits, or personal injury connected to your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of $50 or the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as TURF grows. If we make material changes we'll notify you in the app or by email; continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept them.
